7 Minute Workout

“In 12 exercises deploying only body weight, a chair and a wall, it fulfills the latest mandates for high-intensity effort, which essentially combines a long run and a visit to the weight room into about seven minutes of steady discomfort — all of it based on science.

Here is the article explaining some of the science behind the effectiveness of the workout. “There’s very good evidence” that high-intensity interval training provides “many of the fitness benefits of prolonged endurance training but in much less time,”

I’ve done this workout a handful of times and it definitely gets your heart pumping.  This isn’t going to get you ready for a marathon but for those of you short on time who want to pack in a quick, effective workout, this might just be for you.

Here is the website (desktop or mobile) that runs you through the 7 minute exercise.  If you prefer, there is an app ($0.99)

Scott’s Cheap Flights

This guy scours the internet for mistake airfares on international flights and passes them on to you.  Some of them are pretty amazing ($400 flights to Rome, $200 flights to the Caribbean, etc.). So if you’re looking to travel internationally with some flexibility on timing (everybody is just waiting to hop on an unplanned international vacation, right?), you ought to check it out. He has a free service and even better deals through his premium service. [Link]

Ecobee Thermostat

Ecobee is a smart thermostat with remote sensors you place around your house to help make your home more comfortable.  These sensors know when you’re home, which rooms are occupied and Ecobee balances your house temperature accordingly.  I have found our house much more comfortable since we began using this thermostat last winter, I’d highly recommend it.  Also, you can control it remotely from anywhere you have an internet connection (especially helpful if out of town for a few days).
