Here is your weekly edition of Three Thought Thursday. Three things I’ve discovered or used and found interesting enough to share with you. Enjoy!
- 401K Fees Matter – Do yourself a favor and look at your expense ratios in your 401k. Today.
A 1% change in expense ratio can save hundreds of thousands of dollars over the life of your investments. I recommend you use Vanguard mutual funds (if available in your 401k) as the average Vanguard mutual fund and ETF expense ratio is 82% less than the industry average (see an example here). For additional reading, here is a good article from WSJ on the topic.
- John Daly Beats the Odds – In honor of Thursday at the PGA Championship, read this article or watch this short video.
This is an incredible story about the how a chain-smoking boozehound from Arkansas won the PGA Championship as a rookie. Ever notice how people texting at night have that eerie blue glow? Or wake up ready to write down the Next Great Idea, and get blinded by your computer screen? During the day, computer screens look good—they’re designed to look like the sun. But, at9PM, 10PM, or 3AM, you probably shouldn’t be looking at the sun. Flux fixes this: it makes the color of your computer’s display adapt to the time of day, warm at night and like sunlight during the day.
